It is cut with a relaxed, roomy body so it will go over a jumper without pulling. The supplier’s own advice is to take one size up if you want to layer heavily underneath or you like a longer, looser winter shape; otherwise take your normal size. Every size is measured in the chart above — the most reliable thing you can do is lay a coat you already own flat and compare the bust and shoulder numbers.

From 37.4 inches (XS) to 39.8 inches (XXL), measured from the shoulder seam. On most heights that lands below the knee, which is what makes it read as a proper winter coat rather than a jacket.

It is a wool blend, not pure wool — the shell is 95% polyester with 5% wool, and the lining is 100% polyester. That is what gives it the soft brushed hand and a little give across the shoulders without the weight or the price of a pure-wool overcoat. We would rather tell you the number than let you assume.

It is a lined mid-weight coat, not a technical parka. It is made for cold, dry days — commuting, the office, weekends, evenings out — with room to put a jumper underneath when it drops further. It is not insulated or waterproof, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
